Backcountry Trip to the Peter Rabbit Hut
Somewhere not too far off the road in Colorado's vast Arapaho National Forest lies an old mining shack known as Peter Rabbit. Long abandoned for its original purpose, the tiny hut now serves as an accessible overnight shelter for backcountry skiers and snowboarders.
Although it consists of just a single room with a wood burning stove and some mattresses, Peter Rabbit is a welcome refuge after a long day of skiing in the surrounding mountains. The hut only sleeps a few comfortably, but if you're feeling lucky load up a sled with firewood and whiskey and hope that no one else had the same idea that day.
